Scientists have discovered a new drugs to cure hearing loss with injected into the middle ear, diffuse across the membrane into the inner ear. Each person has an average of about 15,000 hair cells per ear. When damaged, these cells can not grow back. But researchers have found a combination of drugs that widen the population of progenitor cells (supporting cells) in the ear and encourage its growth into hair cells. These findings provide new avenues and the potential for treating hearing loss generally experienced by parents.
